The "world ending in 2012" garbage is simply misunderstanding of the Mayan calendar.
The CALENDAR ends in 2012, and the Mayans believed (3000 years ago) that the end of the calendar is not the end of the world, its the end of a world cycle and a new one will begin.

I am probably going to be one of the people laughing at the mass crowds of conformists who gather on the "last" days because of a prediction that was made more than 2000 years ago
and why do I think this way is because I believe no matter what happens humans will find a way to survive because we are truly just that selfish
No, I don’t think the world will end because there is supposed to be no knowledge of the apocalypse. However, I do think it is amazing how the cosmos line up in 2012 and how both the Mayans and Nostradamus calculated this date. Also, the amount and magnitude of natural and man made disasters within the last 15 years is a little startling. I do believe the world is looking at some serious problems within the near future. Both because of China’s rising economic power and what is going on in America. If you haven’t noticed, there is pure hatred between Americans like there has never been before. The political parties have the nation divided. If the division was geographic like during the Civil War, I believe there would have been one already. But there is no line. There is only a powder keg. Ever since the 2000 election, there has been such great controversy, and I don’t see it ending soon.
No. The world (as in the physical planet) will never end, just go through an ancient process of turning back to stardust.
However, come 2012, big things will be going down, no doubt. The human world is currently going bananas, making bigger weapons, getting more paranoid, creating its own phobias. \
The biological world is in a state of turmoil, and that year could well see devastation in the forms of floods, tornadoes, Ice Melts, and earthquakes….
And the sun….
the sun will be raging that year. It will be angry at all of us, and it will tell us in tongues of fire. The next solar cycle will be a big one due to the peak of Solar Maximum, and a larger cycle that will reincarnate sunspots from the last big storm on the ball of fire… it will make storms in our skies and teach us technology is just the plaything of the little brother…
It won’t be a time of sleep. It is the end of one cycle, and the beginning of the next. We will all be alert. And then we will all have to fucking wake up.
The solar alignment that is suppose to happen only happens 13,000 years. The earth and moon will be in a constellation "Ophucus" I believe, which is the thirteenth Secret sign of the zodiac that the Incans, Myans, and Atlantians discovered. There are theories that suggested the Atlantians also abuse the power of harnessing nature like we are doing and suffered the great wrath of God or Nature. Funny that the super collider that is suppose to discover the Higgs Boson, or God Particle, is probably going to be completed around that time. Many great physicist suggest that releasing this God particle may cause a chain reaction that causes all matter to release its God particle and may even destroy our entire Galaxy!!!
Although the Mayans greatly studied astronomy and were very accurate, I don’t think that the world will end in 2012. Sure, the Mayans created the fist calendar, which believe it or not is more accurate than ours, but how could they know? I mean, really, think about it. I believe what other people say, that 2012 is just the beginning of the Mayan calendar or something like that. What will the Earth do? Stop spinning? Explode? Melt? No offense, but I’ve heard this ten thousand times and its starting to get ridiculous. There’s nothing to worry about so everyone should just stop believing in a mistake someone made.

I’ve read a fair amount about the Mayan time keepers. the raging sun, and the alignment of our galaxy on 12-21-12.
I have come to the conclusion that "I don’t know" what will happen, and you really shouldn’t trust anyone who professes to know.
Not much we can do about it if our world does end. I suggest kicking back and enjoying the ride.
