I recently went to Chichen Itza on the yucatan penninsula, that’s in Mayan coutry, and our tour guide who also happened to be mayan said that he and many believe that the calender ends on 2012 but that it just marks the end of one cycal, similar to how our calenders end after december. The world doesn’t end after december, the calender just needs to start over, and he said that life will go on, it’s just the beginning of the new cycal.
I believe personally that the Mayan calender IS pointing to something along the way, but not the end of the world. I believe that it is probably an alignment of the stars or planets. It is a terribly accurate calender. It was useful for thousands of years, and has tons of culture connected to it. We’re just reading too far into it with the end of the world theories poppin up.
It is a few thousand years old. The thing about this is –many of our cultures are also predicting the same thing, that December 21, 2012 something catastrophic may happen. Interestingly the Bible teaches that once you see various signs know that he is at the door. Meaning, get your house in order now, because immediately after you die, you are face to face with eternity.
Do a search on December 21, 2012. You will see several other cultures saying the same thing. I think the Mayans believed there would be a shift. If so, that is destruction and rebirth.
It is like stepping through the membrane of time.

You think that’s bad? The calendar hanging on my wall right now doesn’t even go past December of this year. 2012? Hah, I wish we had that long.
Our calendars end some 1 to 3 years after they are made… did the world end yet? no
When will the world? Nobody knows… which makes it all the more exciting…
nah i dont believe it. people thought the world would end in 1996 and they thought it would end June, 6, 2006 and wow look at that!! the world is still spinning.
no i dont think it will end but like the first answer said just probablley pointing at something.
My wife and I agree that at the end of the Mayan calender, there will be a shift in our world as we know it. I believe the chinese calender ends at 2012 also.
