Why is this Doomsday date getting more attention than the other ones? What evidence is there to suggest that the world is going to end or even begin to end?
Also, why do some Christians believe that this day is going to end , the Bible does mention the end of the world , but it never gives a date , it never even mentions the year 2012 at all?
It’s understandable-ishh. If a crazy lady wearing a chicken for a hat told you the exact date you were going to die, regardless of her chicken hat and ability to make sense, you’d be a little scared, right? Its mainly been amplified by the media, there have been songs, films, countless amounts of books on the matter, why pipe down about it when they are making moneeey? I’ve only heard about the rumour its self on the internet, so its probably getting more attention because more people are using the internet these days.
If you’re worrying, don’t.
Its getting more attention because of the way the media works nowadays. During 1997, 1999 and 2000 we didn’t have Twitter and such. Companies want money and disaster stuff sells.
I don’t why some Christians are believing it. God will come "like a thief in the night" not when everyone thinks the world’s going to end. Even Jesus Himself said He didn’t not know when.
Not sure why some people are freaking out, maybe they didn’t live their lives right. I notice that every October the tabloids predict a doomsday, and yet it never happens, yet they keep predicting it. I am not sure why this gets attention, you are right, there is no proof of it. It seems logical that if the Mayan calender ends in 2012, it is possible that the calendar just starts at the beginning the next day. I was not aware that Christians believe that is the day when the world will end, the Bible does not say a date when the world ends. We are certainly in the last days of Christ, but we have been in the last days of Christ since I was a child. The Bible also says…..there is nothing new under the sun, and that is true. All of these floods and weather issues and birds falling dead and fires and famine and wars and cheating……none of it is new under the sun.
The same reason people all over the world freaked out for Y2K phenomenon in the year 2000. The same reason there’s a doomsday theory that spreads worldwide causing a bit of panic every 3 years or so…. cause people are largely stupid.
In all fairness though, there is a miniscule chance that we could all die in 2012, and that this doomsday theory at least for reasons of coincidence has a greater chance of killing us all.. huge solar flares. The solar maximum which is cyclical – this is cycle number 24 if i believe – will probably hit us sometime in 2012, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time, when our magnetic field is weaker than ever for reasons of global warming (or not… depending on which Republican you talk to).
If that happens, plenty of things could happen: 1) we could just all die, 2) the magnetic poles would get completely messed up, and 3) all of our electronics including satellites, planes, cellphones, etc… would get all messed up… maybe even nuclear silos?
I say all this with very little knowledge, and a bit of jest, but it’s quite true. In fact, i was already aware of this solar maximum creeping up before the blockbuster movie 2012 popped up last year to tell us that once again… we’re all going to die… cause uneducated Buddhist monks and math-whiz Mayans from thousands of years ago.. people who would likely view our iphone as a manifestation of God deemed it so. And of course how could i leave out the uneducated fishermen of Christianity whose billion different branches/denominations all have different timelines of when Jeebus will come back and take us (as in me and my crew… probably not you though) back to heaven.
Some people say that on an ancient Mayan calendar 2012 points to the end of the world: they pick December 21 2012 as the exact day because that’s when the calender ends.
Its BULLcrap
The main reason that people are going crazy about 2012 is because of the Mayans. The Mayans predicted that December 21, 2012 would be the last day of The Great Cycle, when it would be the last day of man.
Another theory is that on that day, mankind will rise to a New Age, the fifth type, etc. This was also developed by the Mayans.
The thing that you said about the Christians was that they believed that on December 21, 2012, Jesus would come down and bring the true believers up to heaven. Then after he leaves, the world will go into years of global disasters and destruction.
Scientists believe that in 2012 or 2013, major solar flares will result in giant radiation storms on Earth, causing major radio wave disruptions and maybe even weeks of no electricity.
Let’s hope nothing bad happens on 2012! FIngers crossed!
The 2012 rumor is the end of the Mayan Calender, so the perception is that the world will end in 2012…the world will not end in 2012, but in 2011….we are at the end times and God, through His Word the Bible, has revealed that Judgment Day is May 21st, 2011, with world annihilation on October 21st, 2011 (God destroying the world with fire).
In between those dates it will be utter horror for the unsaved left behind. Pray now for mercy and forgiveness while there is still time.

Read. read, read the Bible
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
There is no evidence, the people who are freaking out are ill-informed and apparently ridiculously easy to influence. People claim that since the Mayan calendar ends on December 21st 2012 the world is going to end. This of course, is utterly ridiculous. It’s the same thing as people in thousands of years from now digging up one of our calendars from modern times and thinking the world will end on the next December 31st. It’s nothing more than the calendar looping, it can’t go on forever and has no influence over the world.
