the axis that was moved was not the axis on which earth rotates around. the axis that WAS moved just means weight is distributed a little differently, and the measurement involved was something like three inches. three inches. thats it.
the earthquake that caused the tsunami in 2004 did nearly as much damage, and do you see any difference in your quality of life since then? do your days feel significantly shorter or longer? do you feel off balance at all? probably not. life goes on. the day has just gotten a MILLISECOND or two shorter. it takes longer to snap your fingers than it takes a millisecond to go by.
the earthquake is no prediction of the end of days, and it is definetely not a sign that ANY god has anything to do with it. its a sign that chile is, and always has been on fault lines. other earthquakes and natural disasters have been moving the earth around since the dawn of time. yet here we are several billion years later, still spinning. get over it.
Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24:22 "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened." Lots of folks have wondered how humanity could survive those months of terror. Once again we see how the Bible can be taken literally. I think it’s quite entertaining to note how the "science" types here selectively support their scientists, choosing what suits their agendas. Scientists are contemplating how many multipliers of damage might have been applied had that earthquake lasted just one more minute. Of interest is the potential of a second one happening of equal magnitude across the Pacific, same depth of 21 miles, same time. It’s all quite probable. It wouldn’t take much more displacement of different masses at that depth to significantly speed rotation of Earth. Should world-wide deep quakes happen day after day life as we know it could be drastically changed, plant-life depending on minimum hours of light duration and intensity ceasing to exist within weeks, like when we left our orange tree in the garden garage too long a winter ago.

As I read through the answers, I see only 3 that make any sense at all. While 1.26 microseconds is not a huge amount of time for us, the movement of the earth’s axis is significant. God does not have an issue with time, when you compare 1,000 years to eternity that 1,000 years would to us be as if it were a single day.
God can make 1.26 microseconds be a disaster, one that ordinary humans can not even begin to perceive. Scientists are starting to see more activity on the earths plates and this activity has resulted in harsher earthquakes.
There has been a lot of talk about the Mayan calendar, that ends December 21, 2012. Many theories have been developed about what this date means. Some say that the earth will tilt on its axis due to the molten mantle coming to a stop. I have also heard theories about how the earth would change its orbit.
It makes little difference, either of these 2 theories if true would cause massive deaths on in the world, probably as deadly as the events that lead to the distinction of the dinosaurs.
All I can say to these people here is that is not a good idea to mock God, you have no idea who you are dealing with. You would be well advised to get your soul prepared for the day of judgment because once you die, you will have either your eternal reward or your eterna punishment.
Your life on earth is short, even if you live to be 100 years old, when you compare it to eternity 100 years will feel like 1.26 microseconds.
Shorten days mean crop cycles will change. I’m afraid that would trigger food shortages as Prophesied in the WORD OF GOD.
