Because spirit is a wave which is not subject to physical law it is possible for shamans to move in and out of the material, across the universe and to distant galaxies in an instant. At least you could see how the millenium bug and the peak oil doomers could be vaguely plausible to someone who didn’t know anything about the subject. This 2012 nonsense doesn’t even pass the smell test; the mayans didn’t predict anything, the nibiru/planet-x morons predicted a doomsday in 2003 already and were still here. In 2012 the rats will flee the sinking ship like rats; lets the next doomsday-fad they congregate on is little less ridiculous.
And by the way, I can’t wait for the “organic” farming fad to die either. It consumes more land, consumes more water, consumes more fuel, uses more pesticide and of poorly understood safety characteristics(e.g. rotenone).
It is an arbitrary set of restrictions ; e.g. you’re allowed to mine potash and use it as a K-fertilizer but only if you don’t filter out the dirt and crud first. You’re allowed to use “artificial” fertilizer if it first passes through the stomach of a cow as corn-feed.
